Limited Liability String Band
We are excited to present an exhilarating five piece Celtic band all the way from the British Isles. The Limited Liability String Band specializes in Traditional Irish, Scottish, British folk, and American Appalachian Old time music.
Hailing from mainland Britain, the Limited Liability String Band brings together five musicians steeped in the traditional music of Scotland, England, Ireland and North America. The band's music incorporates everything from trance-like ten-minute interpretations of Appalachian Old Time tunes to heartbreaking renditions of English workers' songs. Their work encompasses jigs, reels and polkas done with a special flare of uplifting energy. The interplay of musicians from different musical backgrounds combined with highly sensitive arrangements gives LLSB a unique sound that is invigoratingly refreshing whilst unmistakably traditional.
Angus McLeod - fiddle Angus McLeod's fiddle playing, developed as a child and informed by his Scottish heritage, is a combination of fiery ecstasy and careful precision. Proficiency in styles ranging from Scottish to Appalachian traditional music make a much sought after fiddler.
Jess Murphy - cello, vocals Jess Murphy is a singer, guitarist and cellist, who counts amongst her diverse range of influences the experimental cellist Arthur Russell, the legendary English folk singers Sandy Denny and Anne Briggs, and the piedmont blues guitar player Etta Baker.
Chris Duffy - mandolin, tenor banjo Chris Duffy cut his teeth raging on guitar in punk and noise bands well into his teenage years. As he matured, his tastes shifted towards the acoustic end of the spectrum as he discovered the wonderful world of banjos, mandolins and folk music in general. His technical prowess has caused others to describe his playing like "an array of lasers blasting a tin roof."
Graham Citizen - bouzouki, vocals Graham Citizen's voice has been described as "the sound of breaking concrete." A Yorkshire man at his roots, his interpretations of English ballads have been moving hearts and stirring souls from the stage to the pub corner for years.
Nathan Bontrager - fiddle, vocals Nathan Bontrager is a multi-instrumentalist from Pennsylvania now living in Germany. His musical activities range from the avant-garde to mainstream pop and everything in between. He is proud to have infected his band mates with an addiction for Appalachian old-time music.
Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door
