Eilen Jewell & her band
Packed with vivid lyrics, steel guitars, and hot licks, Jewells Americana-driven brand of country music sounds tailor-made for sweltering, stagnant summer nights. Entertainment Weekly
Crafting a unique style that mixes poetic ballads with swinging rockers, Eilen Jewell ranks among the best in the Americana genre today. As the reigning Queen of the Minor Key, Jewell leads a tight band that blends country and folk with surf-noir, early blues, rockabilly, and 60s era rock. Over the course of a decade and a half, Jewell and her band have toured relentlessly, performing for legions of fans from Boise to Melbourne at festivals, theaters, clubs and coffeehouses. Jewel has earned a reputation for matching beautiful songs with fiery performances characterized by warmth, wit and humor.
Back in the day, Jewell left her home town of Boise to attend college in Santa Fe, then migrated to Los Angeles and finally, to the East Coast. Jumping into Bostons roots-music scene, she began hunting for a guitarist. Husband/drummer Jason Beek pointed her to Jerry Miller, a bona-fide Boston legend known for his versatility. Theyve been playing together ever since, including on Jewells latest album, Down Hearted Blues, which finds the band unearthing 12 vintage gems written or made famous by an array of artists both renowned and obscure, from Willie Dixon and Memphis Minnie to Charles Sheffield and Betty James. Like expert stonecutters, they chiseled them into exciting new shapes and forms, honoring history while breathing new life into each discovery.
