Lillian
Taconic Stage Co. (TSC) presents a play about Lillian Hellman, Lillian, by William Luce, starring Diedre Bollinger and directed by TSC founder and Artistic Director Carl Ritchie.
Based on her own writing, this fascinating one-woman play is the definitive portrait of the hard-living playwright as she waits in the hospital for news of her longtime love, novelist Dashiell Hammet. Luce reveals the contradictions and mysteries of an extraordinary woman while fashioning a moving yet witty play. We see her rebellious early life in New Orleans and New York, her successful career on Broadway and in Hollywood as well as her appearance before McCarthy's House Committee on Un-American Activities that had already sent Hammett to prison. An intense, intriguing and intimate portrayal of the woman who gave us The Little Foxes, The Children's Hour and Pentimento.
