Resonance @ First Church presents Ars Minerva Ifigenia in Aulide

Savor the modern world premiere production of Giovanni Porta's Ifigenia in Aulide, as recreated by one of the Bay Area's most exciting opera companies!

Composed in 1738, Ifigenia in Aulide retells (with a twist) the tale of Iphigenia, sacrificed to the gods by her father, Agamemnon, so that his ships can sail to Troy.

This is the fourth modern world premiere by Ars Minerva (www.arsminerva.org), founded in 2013 by mezzo-soprano Céline Ricci. The critically-acclaimed opera company specializes in resurrecting operas of the Italian Baroque and presenting them in arresting productions.

A rousing success at its first performance, this concert performance will be followed by two semi-staged performances at ODC Theater in San Francisco on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

A full period orchestra will be led by conductor Derek Tam, and the cast will include:

In 2014, First Church Berkeley, a premier venue for music performance in the East Bay, created its own exciting series of chamber and orchestral music concerts. Now in its fifth season, Resonance @ First Church has become a mainstay of the East Bay artistic calendar.
