Sacconi Quartet and Jon Boden present: The Juliet Letters
The acclaimed Sacconi Quartet join singer-songwriter Jon Boden (ex-lead singer of turbo folk heroes Bellowhead) to reprise Elvis Costello's rich, beautiful and genre-blurring album, The Juliet Letters, originally recorded with The Brodsky Quartet, and based on a series of imaginary letters being sent to Shakespeare's fated lover, Juliet Capulet.
The Sacconi Quartet also perform Steve Reich's eclectic Different Trains for string quartet and tape - the piece in which Reich developed his earlier use of recorded speech into a dramatic new musical approach. This profound piece examines the experience of war from different perspectives, inspired by train journeys Reich had made as a child.
The award-winning Sacconi Quartet are recognised for their unanimous and compelling ensemble, consistently communicating with a fresh and imaginative approach. Formed in 2001, its four founder members continue to demonstrate a shared passion for string quartet repertoire, infectiously reaching out to audiences with their energy and enthusiasm. The Quartet have enjoyed a highly successful international career, performing regularly throughout Europe, at Londons major venues, in recordings and on radio broadcasts. The Sacconi is Quartet in Association at the Royal College of Music.
Folk singer Jon Boden is recognised as the lead singer of multi-award winning Bellowhead, which achieved a level of critical and commercial success unmatched by any other band working in English traditional music in the last three decades. Boden has become the stand out performer of his generation of traditional folk artists, and one whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre. Since 2009 he has played with The Remnant Kings, has performed across the world and has composed music for both theatre and film.
