Stories on Wood,Steel & Ivory
With over a century of songwriting between them, what these three old friends (Mason, Severson & Smith) have been through could fill a book. Each has tasted fame, seen fortunes lost or gained, had beautiful and harrowing journeys, seen dark nights of the soul, sunshine, and days of plenty. They will be joined by members of the Songwriters Association of Washington.
BEN MASON has been a performing musician in the DC area since the 60's playing at the Birchmere, Blues Alley, the Cellar Door, and the Kennedy Center, He was on Lifesong Records { Jim Croce}, RCA Sunberry/Dunbar, Nashville's Cedarwood Publishing (as a writer) and was a musical guest on the Today Show, He wrote two nationally aired film scores for NBC TV and was the grand prize winner in the 10th Annual Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest. Songs from "Loveland",his third CD, are featured in the film "Recludere",on MSNBC, and in Disney films. He is currently signed with Heavy Hitters Publishing in LA. http://www.benmasonsongs.com/
JEFF SEVERSON Is a fingerstyle guitarist from Arlington VA who has released 8 CDs of original material and refuses to stop. He is better known around the DC area for being a member of the 80's power pop band 4 out of 5 Doctors that has recently played reunion shows at Jammin Java in Vienna. Jeff has opened for other guitar greats at Jammin Java including Kaki King, Pierre Bensusan, Adrian Legg and Pepino D'Augustino. JEFF SMITH has been a musician since his mid teens, starting out with the drums and learning other instruments as needed by whatever the band he was in at the time. The songs on his debut album, The Human Wilderness produced by Jeff Juliano (John Mayer/Dave Matthews), conjure up images of coal barges on the Ohio; rusted out cars swallowed up by vines , and the dreams and fears of its sons and daughters who move on to the big cities. Las Vegas Music Scene magazine wrote,"The Human Wilderness is as welcome as a roadside diner on a lonely highway. These heartfelt songs about life in small town USA are true masterpieces of American music.'" Recently signed to Heavy Hitters Music Group in LA, Jeff was their featured artist for the month of February 2011 and had the good fortune of having his song "You," placed in an episode of the Young and Restless.
