Bus Trip to Frederic Church's Olana
Join us for a fantastic opportunity to visit the home of Hartford-born artist Frederic Church, one of the leading members of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. Church built a magnificent estate called Olana in Hudson, New York, in the late 19th century. The home's design was heavily influenced by a trip he and his wife Isabel made to the Middle East.
This year, the Olana State Historic Site has mounted an exhibit of historic costumes and textiles collected by the Churches in the Middle East. These costumes are on view to the public for the first time, and the exhibition highlights how the textiles inspired both his art and the décor of his home.
Our experience at Olana will begin with a tour of the historic landscape, carefully designed by Church. Then we will tour the main house and the exhibition "COSTUME & CUSTOM: Middle Eastern Threads at Olana." Lunch is included. The bus will depart the CHS promptly at 7:30 am and return at approximately 5:00 pm.
The trip is $85 for CHS members and $95 for non-members. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The trip is free for subscribers to the CHS Fashion & Textile Council.
Please contact Adult Programs Manager Natalie Belanger with any questions at (860) 236-5621 x289, or email Natalie_Belanger@chs.org.
