Curtis Taylor Quartet featuring Shana Tucker
Curtis Taylor, trumpet Amy K Bormet, piano James Suter, bass Brevan Hampden, drums Shana Tucker, vocals, cello
------------------------------ Grammy Award-winning trumpeter CURTIS TAYLORs lyrical and melodic improvisational style displays a level of maturity far beyond his counterparts. His unique blend of soulfulness, harmonic sensibilities and rhythm melt together for an unforgettable sound that directly connects with the soul of the listener. Taylors trumpet can be heard on critically acclaimed American jazz singer-songwriter Gregory Porters debut album Water, and also on his junior release (Blue Note records) Liquid Spirit, which won a 2013 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. He has also performed and recorded with Patrice Rushen, Billy Childs, Gary Novak, Bob Sheppard, Ed Motta, Marvin "Smitty' Smith, Rodney Whitaker, and Antonio Hart. Taylors stint with jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut included a notable concert performance at Kennedy Center recorded for NPRs Jazzset, an appearance at the Spoleto Jazz Festival, and a week long engagement at Dizzys Club in NYC. -- curtistaylor.net
An NPR interview about SHANA TUCKER's debut CD, SHiNE and her unique ChamberSoul style prompted an invitation from Cirque du Soleil to join the company as cellist/vocalist for their show, KÀ in Las Vegas, where she stayed and performed for five years before returning to her chosen home of North Carolina. With collaborations as the cornerstone of her artistry, Shana is currently a featured artist performing with legendary jazz saxophonist/composer Bennie Maupin; jazz drummer/composer Shirazette Tinnin and Sonic WallPaper; and Grammy-nominated soul collective, The Foreign Exchange. Shana's newest project, Women's Work, features a female artist-led collective of jazz, soul and pop singer-songwriters and musicians representing both east and west coasts. -- shanatucker.com
