Shamanic Art of Joska Soos & Fariba Bogzaran
A walk-through the exhibition with Fariba Bogzaran and a lecture withBelgian art historian, Tamara Ingels, Ph.D., on Hungarian Shaman/artist Joska Soos.
Lucidity: Fariba Bogzaran, A Retrospective presents the work of the artist, scientist, and scholar, Fariba Bogzaran.
Bogzaran's work is fundamentally grounded in her lifelong research of dreams and the concept of lucid dreaming: the state of being conscious while dreaming. The act of lucid dreaming allows for the construction of an unrestricted creative space where her body of work is generated. Bogzaran declares: "Stepping out of the boxes of expectations, assumptions, a new level of consciousness is experienced and expressed. Whether by creating physical forms, or other means of creations, art becomes a way of life, undivided by the limitations of the mind."
Her trans-media installations, paintings, and drawings will be presented on the three floors of Meridian Gallery. Bogzaran proposes the gallery as an epistemology through which the visitor will experience the artist's concepts of deconstructing the self and examining core beliefs on the first floor, scientific inquiry by observation and contemplation on the second floor, and transcendence on the third floor. Bogzaran's Persian heritage is reflected through the suggestion of calligraphic script in the abstracted lines that can be seen in many of her paintings and drawings yet she transcends culture by integrating the elements and marks into a new form.
Fariba Bogzaran, Ph.D. is an artist, professor, and founder of the dream studies program at John F. Kennedy University. Bogzaran, a pioneer in the field of dream studies, has been an exhibiting artist since 1983 and curating exhibitions inquiring into dreams, science and consciousness since 1985. She chose San Francisco as her home in 1985 and became an American citizen in 1991. She recently moved full time to Inverness, CA where she is the creative director of the Lucid Art Foundation, which she co-founded in 1998 with the surrealist painter Gordon Onslow Ford.
