EXTENDED!! In response to public outcry for more schlock terror, Foul Play is pleased to announce back-to-back Bs!the extension of our sold-out show Attack of the Killer B-Movies: Live!, now in double-feature form! Starting Friday, June 13th, this trio of deadly B-movies will continue its run at the infamous Exit Stage Left, promising to be bigger, badder and more brilliant than ever! Horror classics The Birds, The Bitter Fruit and The Blob are brought to life by a fearless stable of actors and streamlined by SF playwright Sean Owens.
Beginning with the Hitchcock classic, THE BIRDS, this ominous tale of avian invasion ripples with undercurrents of feminism, as willful gadabout Melanie Daniels pursues a lovebird relationship with enterprising lawyer Mitch Brenner, while the quiet town of Bodega Bay takes notice. Its Mitch's mother, Lydia who rules the roost, but before feathers can fly, an aerial assault pits the hapless household against a squadron of starlings. Michelle Talgarow directs.
Next join us for a completely authorized evening of hilarity and terror, with THE BITTER FRUIT! Starring Sean Owens as eleven-year-old Dora Marksman, who will stop at nothing to acquire a coveted blue ribbon from play-pal Mort Goiter, despite his cries of Cease and desist! This courageous and legally unimpeachable production dares to ask the question, Does the Tree of Life have rotten roots? And what if the Blossoms of Youth are pollinated, not by the Bees of Mercy, but the Wasps of Villainy? Ponder each pregnant pause with playwright Sean Owens, and see if YOU can bear THE BITTER FRUIT! Jim Fourniadis directs.
Finally, we commemorate the passing of sci-fi screenwriter Kate Phillips, whose script The Molten Meteor became the 50-year-old classic THE BLOB, the stirring story of a ragtag team of scofflaws who must alert their sleepy town to the gelatinous dangers that a fallen meteor has unleashed. Brooding teen Steve Andrews interrupts a hot date with good girl Janie Johnson to chase the oozing, formless horror thats gobbling up the community. Sean Owens directs. The extension of Attack of the Killer B-Movies: Live! runs June 13 to June 22, 2008; performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and 10pm; and Sundays at 7pm and 9pm. Check website for show listings. AOTKBM is at Exit Stage Left, 156 Eddy Street, SF. Tickets are $15 at brownpapertickets.com per show, with a discount if you buy more for more than one show.
