Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio! Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show, co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. Now in its 11th year, having celebrated its 10th Anniversary Show in May.
The show takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. Geduldig created the event in 2008 order to bring back to life a comedy show that used to take place in the 1980s and 1990s at El Rio.
Please note: The show, which has been taking place every 3rd Thursday of the month will change to 3rd Friday of the month starting in August.
The Thursday, July 19 show will feature Dan St Paul (guest host), Michael Meehan, Karinda Dobbins, Bridget Schwartz, and Priyanka Wali.
Dan St. Paul grew up in San Francisco's Mission District and moved to LA where he appeared on several episodes of An Evening at the Improv, numerous shows on VH-1, MTV, and Comedy Central. He has opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, and others. He appeared in the movie Flubber with Robin Williams and signed a recording deal with MCA records. His CD, Natural and Good for You contains one the most requested comedy pieces on radio, "The First Baseball Game." He also is the star of his own one-man play, Outer Mission, Middle Class - The Comic Diary of an Immigrant's Son. Corporate clients include Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Nations Bank, Philips Magnavox, Chevron, and Blue Cross. The majority of Dan's material comes from being a suburban husband and father and dealing with the frustrations of everyday life. He lives in Foster City with his wife and son. www.danstpaul.com
Michael Meehan has appeared on The Late Late Show, Last Comic Standing, PBS Comedy Tonight, and a host of comedy cable shows now forgotten. He's funny, and he grew up here. He wrote and directed a comedy feature film, Hey Monster, Hands off my City, featuring many San Francisco comedians.
Karinda Dobbins is a Detroit-raised, San Francisco-based stand-up comic and actor. Bitch Magazine said Karinda is one of "Six Hilarious Female Comedians You Don't Know Yet - But Should". She has opened for Dave Chappelle, Trevor Noah, Hari Kondabolu, Margaret Cho and toured with W. Kamau Bell. She performed at Bridgetown Comedy Festival and Comedy Central's Collosal Clusterfest. Karinda made her primetime national television debut on NickMom Night Out. She produces a bi-monthly political comedy show in Oakland called The Resistance.
Bridget Schwartz was a well-known San Francisco comic for many years (a Josies Cabaret and Juice Joint favorite), and then she took a hiatus to do something else for a while. That "something else" turned into "nothing" so she decided to come back and tell us all about middle age. She has no new insights but went out with 70 different men on OKCupid just to see if any of them noticed she was wearing two different colored socks. She likes cats and hamsters, but not at the same time (sad story), and has spent time in jail in Munich, Germany.
Priyanka Wali, named by Refinery29 as "50 Female Stand-Up Comedians You Need To Know, is a stand up comic who performs routinely all throughout the United States and abroad, including corporate gigs, casinos and comedy clubs. She has been featured on KFOG Radio, Women's Health Magazine, The Today Show, Business Insider, Uproxx, Cosmopolitan, India Currents Magazine, and Healthline. Priyanka truly believes laughter is the best medicine but likes to cover her bases as a board-certified practicing physician in Internal Medicine too. www.priyankawali.com
