Dr. Adrian Krainer is a Professor of Molecular Genetics, St. Giles Foundation, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Dr. Krainer's research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory involves gene expression and gene splicing in genetic diseases and cancer. Extraordinary Measures is a drama centered on the efforts of John and Aileen Crowley to find a researcher who might have a cure for their two children's rare genetic disorder. Using the film as a springboard, Dr. Krainer will discuss his genetic research, particularly as it pertains to disease therapy and treatment.

John (Brendan Fraser) is a biotechnology executive whose two youngest children are afflicted with Pompe disease or acid maltase deficiency. John tracks down a reclusive research scientist who doesn't play well with others, Robert Stomehill (Harrison Ford) and Along with his wife Aileen (Keri Russell), raises money for Stomehill's research, forming a new bio-tech company to develop a drug to treat Pompe.
