TOUGHCATS - WATERMAN'S COMMUNITY CENTER - NORTH HAVEN, ME - JULY 14TH - 7:30 PM
It was the winter of '06. A Nor'easter was rocking the island...or so we thought. It was at that moment that three Toughcats emerged from the turbulent waters of the Fox Island Thorofare and were witnessed rising up from the Waterman's stage. The packed theater, that had congregated to take shelter from the storm, realized that they were now face to face with it. It was not generated by the atmosphere. It came from the sheer excitement, intensity, and sounds of this one of a kind band. Fear quickly turned to excitement, fun, and cheers.
For many years these three Toughcats would continue to appear on the stage at Waterman's once or twice a year. You could sense their arrival by the way the bell buoys in Penobscot Bay would strangely begin to chime in harmony like the plucked strings of a banjo. It was the best of times for all the fans. And when word went out each year that Toughcats were coming, everyone smiled, and came together to enjoy. But then, like snow in July, the band vanished without a trace.
I was unsure if I would ever see them at Waterman's again. Was it all a dream? Was it too good to be true? My mind was lost at sea. But recently the hairs on my neck began to dance to the rhythm of a suitcase drum. I've noticed that the ocean has taken on a different cadence to its motion. The smell of resonator guitar is ever present in the afternoon sea breeze. The #26 buoy suddenly has that high lonesome sound. At first I wasn't sure. But I feel it in my bones. I feel it all around me. On July 14th a blizzard is in the forecast! Toughcats are coming! Toughcats are coming! TOUGHCATS ARE COMING!!!
