Hand to God by Robert Askins
Toronto Premiere of Hand To God by Robert Askins
Nominated for 5 Tony Awards, this searing black comedy takes us to the deep evangelical south and introduces us to Christian widow Margerie and her teenage son Jason, whose homemade puppet Tyrone seems to be talking in someone else's voice - is it The Devil? Margerie, Pastor Greg, the longed-after (by Jason, but not Tyrone!) girl in church Jessica, Timmy, the neighbourhood trouble-maker, and even Jason himself - no one is safe from the truths that this filthy sock puppet spews. Mitchell Cushman returns to the Coal Mine (The Aliens) having directed the hit production of Hand to God at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.
"Mr. Askins' black comedy about the divided human soul, previously seen in two separate Off Broadway runs, stands out as a misfit both merry and scary, and very welcome." NYTimes
