Come join us at the National Museum of Mexican Arts, 1852 W. 19th St. in Chicago, on Saturday, June 1, 2013 for an evening of fun, music, and dancing with new and old friends. The Gala event will celebrate the 20 years of the Xochiquetzal Peace Garden in Pilsen. Visit the museum from 6 p.m to 8 p.m., and enjoy beverages, including wine and beer in the Court Yard Gallery and a hors d'oeuvres and desserts buffet in the West Gallery all evening.
This year, the "Friends of Whittier" are joining forces with the Xochiquetzal Garden in raising funds for programs that benefit the Whittier Dual Language School's 375 children, as well the entire community. The Peace Garden is a welcoming green space for the neighborhood, and hosts science and cultural programs for entire classrooms. Music programs currently funded through "Friends of Whittier" are the school choir, (affiliated with the Chicago Children's Choir), and a Suzuki string program from Merit School of Music.
Presentations by the school's music groups will begin around 7 p.m. This Gala is not a "formal dinner" so please feel free to come anytime during the evening. Jazz for listening and dancing by the C.Segal Jazz trio.
