About Itzhak:
From Schubert to Strauss, Bach to Brahms, Mozart to Billy Joel, Itzhak Perlmans violin playing transcends mere performance to evoke the celebrations and struggles of real life; praying with the violin, says renowned Tel Aviv violinmaker Amnon Weinstein. Alison Chernicks enchanting documentary looks beyond the sublime musician to see the polio survivor whose parents emigrated from Poland to Israel, and the young man who struggled to be taken seriously as a music student when schools saw only his disability.
Itzhak himself is funny, irreverent and self-deprecating, and here his life story unspools in conversations with masterful musicians, family and friends, and most endearingly his devoted wife of 50 years, Toby. Itzhak and Tobys lives are dedicated to their large, loving, Jewish family in NYC and their continual support of young musicians. As charming and entrancing as the famous violinist himself, ITZHAK is a portrait of musical virtuosity seamlessly enclosed in warmth, humor, and above all, love.
About boho4:
boho4 emerged from Boho Strings, the Belgium based, innovative string orchestra, which sees classical music as a source for societal self-reflection and change. boho4 performs regularly at venues across Belgium, and they maintain an ongoing series of lecture performances at BOZAR Brussels. As quartet in residence at the Southampton Summer Strings Festival in Southampton, NY, they also take an active interest in education. Last summer, boho4 undertook a concert tour in greater New York following their residency at the Southampton Strings Festival.
boho4 is known for the eclecticism of its programming and the diversity of its concerts, while continually trying to change the traditional classical concert idea.
15th Annual Strings Festival July 23 August 3, 2018 Under the direction of Jessica Tortorice and boho4 String Quartet of Belgium
Southampton Strings Festival gives students (violinists, violists, cellists, bassists, and chamber ensembles) the opportunity to intensively study classical repertoire and skills in a hands-on, fun, and creative way. Their goal is to broaden the scope of childrens musical knowledge and appreciation. Their international group of coaches have a passion for inspiring students to learn and discover. Year after year, students are amazed by how much they learn in such a short period of time and more importantly, how much fun they have doing it.
