Making A Show: Organic Longform
"Amazeballs!"
Organic Longform runs 7pm-10pm every Wednesday from 7th November - 3rd December
In improvisation, every show is unique, created from the genius of the performers, the enthusiasm of the audience and that little sprinkle of luck. The beauty and the buzz of making it up comes in large part from that feeling of freshness and immediacy that comes from having no script.
So why not do the same with the form as we do with the content? By developing our curiosity and noticing what is already happening, supporting each other onstage and treating every oddity as an opportunity, it is possible to not just have a new show every night, but a whole new show format every night.
Slick, elegant improvised theatre that happens easily and effortlessly, and is completely original.
Working from established formats including the Harold and the Deconstruction, as well as the core principles of freeform organic improvisation, this course will teach how to improvise the format of the show night by night, building the aeroplane as you fly, linking scenes, games and characters together. You will learn how to license and celebrate both the genius and the weird of the people onstage to create a show and form that could only have happened that day with that set of people. To improvise the improv.
Course syallabus includes:
Initiating with and without premise Noticing patterns in the show and using them to create structure Supporting and justifying choices and offers made by your team Bold, generous editing and freeform transitions Callbacks and returning to characters and situations Making easy, fluid scenes without effort
"Great content, well taught, and plenty of chance to practice."
This class is for those who have some improvisational experience. Maybe a course or two. Get in touch if you have any questions about this.
You can pay for this course in one chunk in full. If you are not able to do this, and would like to secure your place with a non-refundable deposit, please email jules@thenurserytheatre.com.
