Librarian, archivist and historian Joseph A. Williams brings the true story of the 'HMS Laurentic' sunk by German mines off the coast of Ireland during the Great War in his book, 'The Sunken GoldA Story of World War I, Espionage and the Greatest Treasure Salvage in History'.
Williams brings this exciting, true tale of undersea diving and naval operations to life, exemplifying human persistence, bravery and patriotism with Lieutenant Commander Guybon C.C. Damant at the helm. More than an incredible story about undersea diving adventure, The Sunken Gold is a story of human persistence, bravery, and patriotism.
Williams hold masters degrees in History and Library and Information Science from Queens College.He worked at the State University of New York Maritime Colleges Stephen B. Luce Library which specializes in nautical research. He currently is the Deputy Director of the Greenwich Library. Q&A will follow the talk.
