Simone Dinnerstein, Essie Jain
Classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein, one of Brooklyn's own, turned 33 in 2005 and had yet to catch her big break. Tired of waiting, she took matters into her own hands and raised the money to record Bach's monumental Goldberg Variations with one of the best classical music producers in the business. She presented her own New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall performing the Goldberg Variations, which sold out and received stunning reviews. Thanks to these bold moves, three years later, she has concerts booked around the world and her recording of the Goldberg Variations (Telarc 2007) ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Chart in its first week of sales. Her recent and upcoming performances take place at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, the Ravinia Festival near Chicago, in San Francisco, Paris, London, Copenhagen, Vilnius, Bremen, and at the Stuttgart Bach Festival. At (Le) Poisson Rouge, Simone shares her favorite selections from Bach's Goldberg Variations, paired with avant-garde American composer George Crumb's Eine Kleine Mitternachtmusik (A Little Midnight Music) based on "Ruminations on 'Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk, for amplified piano.
Essie Jain was born and raised in London, England, thus making her very British. She is now based out of New York City. Her music is gentle, warm, open and intimate, and, as articulated by the New York Times, "Jain builds stark miniatures out of a few light strums of guitar and her haunting alto. On her captivating new album, her voice is multitracked in precise harmonies that can be warm or ghostly." Her first full length record *WE MADE THIS OURSELVES* was released throughout the United States on BA DA BING in February 2007, and was then released worldwide on THE LEAF LABEL on March 31, 2008. Her second full length record, entitled *THE INBETWEEN* was released throughout the United States on May 13, 2008 on BA DA BING.
