Exploring the Foods of the Lower East Side
Walking the tenement-lined streets of the Lower East Side, we'll get to know the stories and struggles of both recent and past immigrants and the food traditions they brought with them from around the world. We'll snack on globe-spanning treats that have become decidedly local mingling our inner Jacob Riis with our inner Anthony Bourdain. The unique Jewish, Latin American and East Asian snacks will taste even better after being further seasoned with the significance of their socio-historical context. This tour of the Lower East Side is a collaboration between Feet in 2 Worlds, a media project at The New School that features the work of immigrant journalists, and tour company Streetwise New York. Tour guide Andrew Silverstein is well-versed in the history of the neighborhood and is offering this tour at a significant discount to our members.
