Painting on the Edge: Plein Air Watercolor in Southampton

Capture the unique sensation of summer light on Southamptons inspiring landscape with the luminous, liquid qualities of watercolor! Live outdoor demonstrations by 92Y Instructor, Wennie Huang, followed by individual guidance and instruction will introduce and expand plein air watercolor techniques and strategies for both the novice and the experienced painter. Working wet-on-wet out of doors, mixing colors with a limited palette, composition and sequencing of landscape elements, creating texture and atmospheric perspective as well as many other key points will be explained and explored. This workshop embraces both representational as well as more abstract approaches.

Large sheet of white foam core if your paper does not come in a block - the paper must be taped to the board securely on all sides before painting. Additional Supplies:

Wennie Huang received her BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in 1994 and her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Michigan in 1996. Huang also teaches drawing at Pratt Institute, and has taught a variety of children and adult classes and workshops since 1995. She creates mixed media installations from paper, wood, print, fabric and photography. Her work has been exhibited at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Wave Hill, Detroit Artists Market Biennial and in various NYC galleries. She has received grants from the National Endowment of the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, as well as residencies at the Lower East Side Printshop, Dieu Donne Papermill and the Ragdale Foundation. She lives and works in Brooklyn.
