The Whore from Ohio
Hanoch Levin is Israel's greatest playwright, beloved by Israeli audiences, and revered in Europe as one of the great post-modernists. New Yiddish Rep first premiered its all-new Yiddish version (by Eli Rosen) at the famed Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and now presents it for the first time in its new midtown studio.
In The Whore from Ohio, Levin tells the story of a pauper named Hoybiter, who on his 70th birthday decides to treat himself to a street prostitute. The play depicts in stark and vivid detail the existential rut in which all people find themselves as they try to derive some satisfaction from life at minimal cost.
