Piandia: John Funkhouser & Jerry Leake
Piandia is a duo consisting of Berklee professors and old friends John Funkhouser (piano) and Jerry Leake (tabla). Funkhouser and Leake team up to delve into the ancient tradition of North Indian (Hindustani) classical music. Deeply soulful and spiritually uplifting ragas are woven together with energetic and intricate rhythms and virtuosic improvisation. "Musically, we start with a seed, and attempt to grow a tree," explains Funkhouser. "We take our time and let the music gradually evolve and build, riding the wave from a peaceful meditation to a vibrant rhythmic crest, merging back into the sea."
This concert takes place at ARTS pace, a pop-up gallery and intimate performance space that's the brainchild of arts-lover and community-minded entrepreneur Luisa Harris. It's a quick 5 min walk from either Roxbury Crossing on the Orange Line or Brigham Circle on the Green E Line. Street parking also available.
Your donation assures a seat in this intimate gallery space - and, more importantly, it's how the musicians get paid for their performance. We suggest a minimum donation of $15.
