Silver Linings (Sunday CIM)
If not for master of melody Jerome Kern (1885-1945), there may well have been no Richard Rodgers, who once said: If you were at all sensitive to music, you had to worship Kern. And Rodgerss grandson, the composer Adam Guettel, believes that melodies are encoded into music, and they will always be decodable by the human heart. We use them for celebrating, or for crying more truly. Jerome Kern wrote beautiful melodies: Look for the Silver Lining, All the Things You Are, Long Ago and Far Away, Im Old-Fashioned, The Way You Look Tonight, and of course the imperishable songs for Show Boat. For this elegant concert, pianist Nancy Maier has assembled a trio including violin and cello; together they will join our singers in revealing the profound purity of Kerns music.
