CMSCVA pairs two stunning pieces for clarinet and string quartet, one written in 19th century Germany, and one that looks back to 13th century mysticism. Johannes Brahms achingly nostalgic Clarinet Quintet in B Minor is performed with Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind by Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov, chamber music inspired by the writings and teachings of Rabbi Yitzhak Saggi Nehor.

Johann Sebastian Bachs elegant and witty Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord are performed in the magnificent Tudor setting of the Branch House. With CMSCVA favorite Carsten Schmidt joined by Asslinn Nosky, concertmaster of Bostons famed Handel and Haydn Society. Tickets $40 general

CMSCVA returns to one of our favorite venues to perform a recital of Baroque chamber music from Darius Castello from 17th century Italy, to J. S. Bach in 18th Century Germany, all on period instruments. Meet the musicians at a reception following the concert.

Performing on period instruments, CMSCVA artists perform music from the Italian and German Baroque for strings and flutes, including Arcangelo Corellis famous Christmas Concerto and music from Georg Philipp Telemanns Tafelmusik.

CMSCVA artists perform two epic musical masterpieces side-by-side, the Piano Trio in E minor by Dimitri Shostakovich, and Olivier Messiaens Quartet for the End of Time. Written during World War II, both pieces have transcended their time and place to become profound statements on tragedy and the hope that rises from it.

Two iconic pieces of chamber music written by Johannes Brahms, the Piano Quartets in C minor and G minor, form the basis for this concert. These impressive and emotional works are the musical products of both the composers struggle with life and the joy he found in it.

Our 14th season concludes the way it started, with the memorable music of Johannes Brahms. CMSCVA artists perform the complete violin sonatas of Johannes Brahms. Brahms close friend Clara Schumann wrote of one of these piece, I wish the last movement could accompany me in my journey from here to the next world.
