Nowruz Feast: Persian Festival of Renewal and Joy
March 24, Atwater: Celebrate Nowruz, the Zoroastrian holiday of Spring Equinox shared by all Persian faiths in Iran for 3,000 years as a time of renewal and joy. Unlike many other festivals in Persia, Nowruz is not exclusive to one religious group.

Our Nowruz Feast is sponsored by Whittier Backyard Farms. You'll enjoy an Urban Dinner Socials traditional-but-vegan four-course meal (menu below) and go home with a papier-mâché egg in honor of the first day of the Iranian new year.

Dinner to be held indoors due to winter weather. Enjoy foyer dining or dinner theatrics in the kitchen!

All-Vegan Menu:

- Kookoo-ye Sabzi served with Mast Esfenaj
(Persian-style dish similar to an Italian frittata, flavored with a variety of herbs and tinted a deep green. Served with a delicious coconut yogurt and spinach dip.)

- Reshteh Polo served with Sabzi Khordan
(Parcooked rice and noodles are layered with a bewitchingly aromatic eggplant lamb and gently steamed in the traditional polo manner. Served with a platter of herbs, scallions, and radishes -- a flavorful, nutritious side that enhances the taste of any dish.)

- Sabzi Polo va Mahi
(A brilliant green version of the famous Persian pilaf rice dish. The green comes from a variety of herbs that give an otherwise plain dish a sublime flavor. We pair sabzi polo with garlicky fried daikon fish for our version of the traditional Nowruz Persian New Year meal.)

- Bastani
(Persian rose water, saffron and pistachio ice cream.)

We'll have a craft activity decorating papier-mâché eggs to celebrate Nowruz - the first day of the Iranian New Year. Come enjoy delicious food and good company with the Urban Dinner Socials. Happy New Day!

Urban Dinner Socials: We are a traveling vegan gastropub that reinvents world cuisine and comfort food using local, organic produce. For recipes, stories, and dinner dates, subscribe to our newsletter: http://eepurl.com/kJfpz

Why dinner? You'll sit down with a stranger and get up with a friend at our community table. Come dine with some of the nicest people in L.A.!

Why vegan? Our inclusive cuisine welcomes everyone. Not only is it vegan, we can make it gluten-free/soy-free/corn-free, you name it.

Why local? Supporting a neighborhood farm* means eating healthy, pure, sustainably grown food. It also means a reduced carbon footprint, increased independence for our local economy, and reduced reliance on non-local resources.

Why experimental? Vegan and raw vegan cuisine is the new Wild West for food lovers. We have the most fun pioneering and helping invent this cuisine!

*The primary produce supplier for the Urban Dinner Socials is Whittier Backyard Farms, a small start-up farm group in Whittier, CA.
