Julie Nathanielsz/The Meeting Point presents SAYA IKAN/I AM A FISH/IK BEN EEN VIS + WHAT IS COMMON
****** TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR 4/10 *******
A very special shared evening with Dutch dance artist Lily Kiara and Austin choreographer Julie Nathanielsz. One-night-only at Mercury Hall.
SAYA IKAN/I AM A FISH/IK BEN EEN VIS, by Dutch dance artist Lily Kiara, dives into the possibility of dance being treated as documentary making. Word play arises as story or as observation, and at other times as poetic contemplation. The observer in the documentary and the dancer are embodied by one performer, revealing a balancing between two areas of perception: observing and experiencing.
I AM A FISH moves into the resonance of war and migration of different generations. It is a performance of observations, experiences, feelings, and choices, and moves through revealing and contemplating the story of Indo-Europeans in Indonesia. Not a performance of guilt or victimhood, I AM A FISH brings attention to dealing with resonance: when the actuality of the situation has gone, though it continues to reverberate through the emotional and physical life.
A work for three dancers (Heloise Gold, Elaine Dove and Nathanielsz), WHAT IS COMMON investigates the tangibility of relations between bodies as it simultaneously dispenses with the evidence of individual difference. It is a sequence of augmented and changing steps, a dance for mermaids, lighthouses, and a fantasy band in which each player revels in the details of form.
