Brooklyn Homebrew-to-Pro Tour
*NOTE: The tour is on SATURDAY, APRIL 6. Sorry for any confusion in the mail. I am but a one-man operation, and my dog is a terrible proofreader.*
Despite New York's gnat-size apartments, NYC homebrewers refuse to let space limitations detract them from their mission: crafting some of the city's tastiest beer. On this tour, you'll meet three of the city's finest amateur (and pro!) brewers, who will display their set-ups, discuss their craft and, most importantly, open up their stash of superlative beer.
For today's Brooklyn-based tour, we're going to start in Kensington/Windsor Terrace at the home of Tony Bellis, a verteran homebrewer of six years who's planning on opening up a brewery. His offerings will include the likes of a chocolate stout, Belgian pale ale, session IPA and an American wheat ale.
Next, we're headed to the home of Squirrel Tail Brewing Company to taste beers such as a rye-driven Belgian dubbel, orange-blossom tripel, hoppy red ale and a double IPA. Guess what? They're also planning on opening a brewpub or brewery. The theme continues at our last stop, Finback Brewery, another brewery-in-planning. They'll likely have an IPA, a ginger-Szechuan witbier and a smoky session beer.
This is about your last chance to try these brewers before they go pro. It's going to be excellent.
Eat a big lunch. Your guide is NYC beer journalist and Brewed Awakening author Joshua M. Bernstein.
