Slow Food Seattle Carnation Farms Summer Tour
Join Slow Food Seattle on Sunday, July 22nd, for a tour of the historic Carnation Farms, nestled in the heart of the Snoqualmie Valley. Come learn how the Stuart Family, the original owners of Carnation Farm, are developing one of the most unique food-centric non-profit institutions in Washington.
We will learn the fascinating history about the farm's origin, the stages of its uses, and ownership over the past 120+ years, and finally the reclaiming of the facility by today's generation of the Stuart family. We'll hear about the family and the non-profit's current vision for the use of the property and their extensive agriculture education initiatives. We'll also tour their experimental organic growing and production facilities with farm operations manager Rosy Smit.
We hope to see you there! Details: -Meet at the Carnation Farms main entrance at 1pm. Park in the space on the south/west side of Carnation Farms Road just outside the gate. -We'll make our way to the farm production area to learn about their certified organic produce fields and livestock (including chickens and turkeys!). -We'll return to the upper campus for a walking tour, finishing up around 3pm.
What to bring: -Sunscreen, sun hat, your own water -Snacks -Good footwear; some of the farm property can be steep
We encourage you to carpool with friends and family. Member and non-member pricing for tickets; children under 10 are free.
