Virginia Burlesque and Sideshow Festival
History. Variety. Empowerment. Evolution.
The all-new Virginia Burlesque & Sideshow Festival was created for a two-fold purpose:
*To offer a fresh way for the public to come to learn to love and show support for the Revival of Vaudeville Arts: Burlesque, Sideshow, and Circus.
*To offer driven, motivated artists in these vibrant fields a positive environment in which to network, learn, and expand the bounds of Empowered Creativity.
About Future of Tradition Productions:
This event is a Future of Tradition production. FoT has been a force in shaping and sustaining the arts in the SouthEastern US since 1999. Founded as a Center for Folk-arts in Asheville, NC, FoT for seven years housed traditional and evolving visual, movement and music artists under one roof. Many long-standing groups had roots there, particularly in the fire and circus arts, bellydance, African, and Latin dance communities. In 2006, the FoT focus shifted to event production. Founded and produced by Lauren O'Leary, aka Madame Onça, the most comprehensive programs to date have been the seven year festival, Triboriginal: Tribal Dance, Music and Culture Camp, and ABSfest, the Americana Burlesque & Sideshow Festival, now in its seventh year as well. Onça now resides in Richmond, VA, and rejoices in RVA's vigor and artistic potential.
