I wrote. I rewrote. I conquered. The Art of Revision with Anna Vodicka.
Hemingway rewrote the final page of A Farewell to Arms 39 times. Nabokov rewrote every word he ever published. In this workshop, we will attempt to "kill our darlings," as Faulkner so memorably put it, while learning to loveor at least toleratewhat many consider to be the most painful but important stage of the writing process. Through a variety of exercises, we'll learn to see our work from new perspectives, take risks, and practice techniques that are guaranteed to improve your writing. Participants are encouraged to bring a work-in-progressand a big eraser.
Anna Vodicka received her MFA from the University of Idaho where she taught English, and her work has appeared in The Iowa Review and Michigan Quarterly, among others.
The cost for any student with a current ID is $20 each. Student ID must be presented to the registration desk at the event. For all others, the cost is $30 each. Space is limited to 20 people per session, so pre-registration is recommended. (However, we will also allow day-of registration, as space allows.)
