Reflective Supervision Symposium
Join us for a full day of deepening our community's collective understanding of Reflective Supervision from an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health lens. This symposium is geared toward leaders and supervisors from across disciplines and agencies that work with or on behalf of infants, young children and their families. Through a Keynote address by Gil Foley, live reflective supervision sessions, and small group discussions, this Symposium will provide a blended opportunity for participants to learn, experience, reflect and think about Reflective Supervision, how it aligns with current work, and new ways that it can support and inform our future work. We expect that participants will fall on a broad spectrum of prior experience and exposure to Reflective Supervision- from novice to expert.
Reflective Supervision (RS) is the gold standard of support for staff across infant and young child serving disciplines, and is increasingly being highlighted as a necessary requirement of fidelity and best practice in many Evidenced Based Practices. In addition to RS becoming an increasing expectation in EBPs it is also a cornerstone of multi-disciplinary Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health practice. As New York State, and the Rochester area specifically, is experiencing an increased valuing of, and demand for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health specialists across sectors, the shortage of trained RS providers is clear. Additionally, in 2016 The New York State Association for Infant Mental Health adopted The Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health's Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health®. The Endorsement® system is the premiere, global effort that identifies best practice competencies across disciplines and settings. Receiving Reflective Supervision through a vetted and/or Endorsed professional is a requirement of this set of standards and competencies for many of the categories of professional Endorsement. To begin to address this community-wide gap, The Early Childhood Development Initiative's Social-Emotional Wellness Committee, with generous sponsorship by Greater Rochester Health Foundation, CCSI & NYS-AIMH, has planned this invitation-only Reflective Supervision Symposium on October 19, 2018. We hope you join us! (Please note that space is limited and offered as first come, first serve.)
