Nanny Assis at Mr. Henry's
Hailing originally from Salvador, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia, renowned musician Nanny Assis is coming to our stage on Saturday, July 14th, joined by Wayne Wilentz on keys and Leo Lucini on bass, to share with us outstanding music with its roots in the remarkable musical traditions of one of Brazils first cities.
Nanny Assis demonstrates the value he places on music in each and every one of his performances, taking the technical elements of notes, pacing, rhythm and crafting something transcendental out of them; sometimes audiences simply react breathlessly rapt, and sometimes theyre driven to get up and dance and sweat until you cant sweat no more, per the inimitable Bob Marley. Nannys ability to find the groove in any kind of music and bring that smoothness to the surface really highlights what makes him such a gifted artist.
His character and appeal have fostered an intercontinental appreciation for his talents, with audiences everywhere, no matter the stage, deeply touched by his music. He has performed at many of NYCs prestigious venues since making it his home in 1999, such as Birdland, Zinc Bar, B.B. King's and the Blue Note. Beyond the Big Apple, he has wowed crowds all over Europe, including Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Italy, and of particular note England, at Queen Elizabeths Hall in London. In 2011, he was the recipient of the prestigious Brazilian International Press Award as "Best Singer of the Year." Nanny has recorded two critically acclaimed albums "Brazilian Vibes" and Double Rainbow."
For such an artist as Nanny, though ,whether its the Queens Hall or the quiet stage of a historic DC venue, everything he is and has will go into that show, and we hope you will join us in welcoming him to our venue. The show will begin at 8:00 PM with the doors opening at 6:00.
