Roosevelt Leadership Day Camp
Roosevelt Neighborhood Day Camp is June 25 through August 2 from 10am-2pm Monday through Thursday at Roosevelt Neighborhood Center. NOTE: No class will be held July 4 and July 5.
Free! This day camp is open to youth ages 12-15 living in the Roosevelt Community.

Introduction
The Roosevelt Neighborhood Resource Center in partnership with (WFCN) Whatcom Family & Community Network has developed a 2018 Summer Youth Program. This summer day camp is available to all youth from the Roosevelt Community in Bellingham, WA.
The Summer Youth Programs goal is to create an opportunity to build youth resilience and increase protective factors through positive social connections and healthy youth development. Summer programming combines a strong resilience building component, with community focused service learning, leadership and life skills. Our aim is to provide positive interactions with safe, caring adults who support youth to overcome challenges through positive and logical thinking.
The Summer Youth Program provides participants training to set goals, identify pathways and build the skills and supports to reach those goals.
Participants will be given the opportunity to practice engaged citizenship in the Roosevelt Community by learning basic community building concepts through community service. They will also learn the importance of caring for the environment and development of leadership skills by learning and doing whats possible to strengthen community.
Population: Youth ages 12-15 years old. Targeted: Residents of the Roosevelt Neighborhood. Cost: Free Hours: 10am-2pm Days: Monday-Thursday Dates: June 25, 2018-August 2, 2018 (closed July 4th and 5th)
Description of Expected Results/Outcome
Increase Resilience to stress factors through Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention training Provide students with the opportunity to participate in activities to enhance Leadership skills Identify what gifts are in students community and how they can help make it a better place to live. Develop positive relationships with other community entities Help the youth develop a positive sense of self through cultural awareness and identify by providing appropriate activities to help them achieve their goals Local Environment education through the Master Gardener program Financial Literary Skills: Youth will learn how to wisely manage money, credit cards, loans etc. Importance of Nutrition and Healthy Eating Habits Career choices; Knowledge of how to successfully complete high school and choose a career that fits their personality and temperament
Weekly Schedule (Tentative)
10:00-10:30 Greetings and description of the days events
10:30-11:30 Positive thoughts workshop Tools for developing a positive self-image Cultural awareness and diversity Developing healthy relationships with family and friends
11:30-12:30 Outdoor/Indoor Activity (depends on the weather) Master Gardener training; Local plants, community gardening etc Community Service project as selected by the youth
12:30-1:00 Lunch
1:00-2:00 One of the following classes will be offered: Healthy eating and cooking lessons Financial Literacy Whatcom Dream M.A.D H.O.P.E Suicide Prevention Substance Abuse Prevention Career Planning: High School success strategies Getting into college + Careers that require a college degree Building and Trade careers information Firefighting, EMT careers Emergency First Aid/CPR Training
