This course briefly introduces daylighting and its benefits. It then identifies energy-efficiency issues related to increasing daylighting and glazed openings. It evaluates specific methods and technologies to improve thermal performance of glazed openings, including relative U-factors, solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), UV protection and visible light transmission (VT). And, lastly it outlines the benefits of an energy-efficient glazing system that allows for increased daylighting.
