Dawn Sonmee: The Nearness of You
A skillful mix of lovely Jazz and Broadway standards sprinkled with a few well chosen musical chestnuts, soulfully delivered by Dawn Sonmee, a rising gurl singer on NYC's cabaret scene. The intimate size of the venue lends itself perfectly to Dawn's gentle style of connecting to the songs and the listeners in a way that transcends both genre and gender. She picks her songs well, and delivers them in a warm, lyrical tone. Add a touch of smart, playful chatter and you have the recipe for a delicious musical evening that will leave you satisfied yet hungry for more.
A life long lover of music, Dawn has spent several years intensively working open mic and invitations at venues such as JAZZ at Kitano, Cleopatra's Needle, Bar Thalia, The Duplex and Don't Tell Mama. In this process, Dawn has found her voice and become a recognized spirit in NYC's cabaret circuit. her tastes run from Ella Fitzgerald to Joni Mitchell and everything in between. She is drawn to music that is at once complex and simple and connects to it in a way that brings out its unique beauty. "Music grounds me and moves me forward...it's an innately human thing".
