Solo Sundays - 3/24/13
MARK KENWARD > Nantucket Wouldn't it be really cool to live on a resort island and have your mother as your high school English teacher? Okay, maybe not. Out in the hallway this big kid with greasy hands and a beard comes up behind me, snags me by the back of my underwear, and while dangling me by my strangled testicles says "you look just like her!" And that's the easy part. Things can go violently wrong in an isolated & edgy community that loves gossip and tragedy. But at least you can write a good essay about Fate & Free Will.
REBECCA FISHER > Memphis on My Mind Elvis, Beale Street, and that god-awful summer heat - the pull of Memphis, TN down on the Mississippi River. It's also Sarah Mackey, a maid that raised Rebecca's mother and was around when she came along. Sarah's hand was hard to forget, a fleshy nub where her fingers used to be, and her laughter, an island of safety. Sarah's grandson? Well, that's another story.
