Dala (ON) Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther met in high school and have been sharing their lush harmonies, sensitive songs and infectious acoustic pop with adoring fans ever since. Dala has wowed critics and moved audiences alike from Alaska to Newport, where they were the only Canadian act invited to play the 50th edition of its eponymous folk festival. With a sound that is equally at home in intimate settings, concert halls and festival stages, the JUNO-nominated duo and 2010 CFMA Vocal Group of the Year recipients were also featured in the PBS documentary Girls From the North Country. Welcome Dala back to the CFC for their highly-anticipated fourth appearance. www.DalaGirls.com
First Up: Scott Cook (AB) Edmonton-based but a true globe-trotter, Scott Cook shows are elusive because he so often gigs overseas. As David Francey says of him, "he has distilled his travels down into songs powered by a sharp eye for imagery, a healthy dose of humanity, and that unforgettable voiceintones the rigors of the road and the most comfortable couch you have ever slept on." www.ScottCook.net
