Ciudades Northwest Flamenco Tour Vashon Island
An evening of Flamenco music and dance featuring singer Jesus Montoya, guitarist Pedro Cortes and dancer, Savannah Fuentes.
Jesús Montoya is from Seville, Spain. Born into the one of the oldest Gypsy families. Jesus was steeped in flamenco purity and power ,earning him the name " El Rey Del Fandangos Grande" at age 7. By age 9 he had started his professional singing career and by age 13 he had started to tour with various professional companies. He was the featured singer for legendary Flamenco dancers Fernanda Romero, Isabel Vargas, Andres Marin, Pepe Rios, La Cipri & Manuela Salazar, Juan Ogalla, Alejandro Granados, Isabel Lopez, Omayra Amaya, Ciro, Juaquin Ruiz, Esrella Moreno, La Truco, Carmela Greco, Pepa Montes, Manolete, Jose Galvan and many more. Now a true master of the flamenco arts, Jesús is a man of overwhelming integrity who sets a paramount high standard both in self expectation and in those who work with him. In addition to his Spanish and European touring credentials, he has toured tirelessly with major flamenco companies throughout the United States and Canada to sold out audiences including: Jose Greco, Maria Benitez, La Tania, and Yaelisa & Caminos Flamencos. An accomplished recording artist as well, including CD's of original compositions as well as collaborations with various world class artists, Jesús has released his 8th CD with musical genius Osvaldo Golijov and Duetsche Grammophon which featured him as the voice of Ruiz Alonzo. The incredibly staged production and recording of "AINADAMAR" "FOUNTAIN OF TEARS" was a double winner of the 2007 Grammy Awards for "BEST CLASSICAL CONTEMPORARY COMPOSITION" and"BEST OPERA RECORDING" for How I Got My Start. Jesus has also appeared in films such as "SOMBRA DEL SOL," "SOLEDAD," and "GYPSY GIRL" and is a SAG member.
In addition to being the one most respected and sought after touring flamenco singers in the US, he continues to perform with his own flamenco company "Pureza Flamenca", widely known for putting on some of the greatest and most exciting flamenco shows worldwide. This award winning 11 member company of distinguished flamenco artists are nothing less than brilliant.
Pedro Cortes, Comes from a family of Spanish Gypsy guitarists and began his studies with his father and the esteemed Flamenco guitarist Sabicas. Having toured professionally since the age of 17, he is gaining international recognition as a soloist and composer. He has premiered his work En la oscuridad de las minas at the Teatro Albeniz in Madrid, and in 1992 he had works premiered by the Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company at the Joyce Theater in New York. He has written two books on Flamenco, El Dron del Faraon and Cruzando el Charco, published by the American Institute of Guitar.
Mr. Cortes, was commissioned by Zorongo Flamenco to write a score for a dance drama called Garden of Names which was inspired by the novel of Lawrence Thornton's called "Imagining Argentina". He also wrote music for a childrens program on H B O called Fairy tale for Every Child.
He has toured with Jose Greco and Maria Benitez, and has performed with artists such as Farrucita, La Tati, Merche Esmeralda, Manolete and the late Lola Flores. He has been guest artist with the St. Louis Opera and the New York Grand Opera, and has been commissioned by and performed as Musical Director with the Guthrie Theater In Garcia Lorcas BODAS DE SANGRE. Mr. Cortes is artistic director of his own Flamenco Fusion group Amanecer Flamenco De Hoy, and also Musical Director of Mimbre Y Vareta and Zorongo Flamenco . Cortes is a third generation Flamenco guitarists and uses the experience passed down to him by his family to maintain the purity of Flamenco while creating new compositions.

JENNIFER FISHER , Los Angeles Times Savannah Fuentes was born in Seattle to parents of Irish and Puerto Rican ancestry. Born into a community of musicians and street artists, as a child Savannah was constantly exposed to art and music. In her late teens She discovered Flamenco and commenced her studies with dancer Ana Montes in Seattle. Making brief trips to Spain, she continued to expand and grow as a student, studying with artists such as La Tati, Belen Maya, and Cristobal Reyes. upon her return to Seattle, she took her first class with Maestra Sara de Luis in Seattle. Maestra Sara de Luis continues to be a mentor and an inspiration to Savannah as she gains experience as a touring artist. Savannah began performing 7 years ago with her dear friend and mentor Dr. Veronica Barrera, with whom she continues to dance and grow with on and off stage. She currently tours throughout the Northwest with esteemed Flamenco artists such as Jesus Montoya, Pedro Cortes, and Saray Munoz Barrull. Savannah has independently produced over 125 performances, workshops, and educational programs in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho featuring internationally recognized Flamenco artists.
