Gregg Araki's Nowhere: 21st Anniversary Screening
Nowhere 35mm, 82 minutes, 1997
Im only 18 years-old and Im totally doomed. 21 years later, the technicolor existential dread and fluid sexuality of Gregg Araki's visionary teen apocalypse film Nowhere has never felt more prescient. Join us for a celebration of Nowheres surreal and singular skewering of 90s teen life in a venue thats as quintessentially L.A. as the film itself. The Vista Theatre was originally known as the Lou Bard Playhouse or Bard's Hollywood. Designed by noted theatre architect Lewis A. Smith, the theatre is a unique combination of decorative styles, with a Spanish exterior and Egyptian-themed interior. The theatre originally featured vaudeville acts and silent movies. In 1942, a gold-colored, Egyptian-themed box office was added. The Vista also features a variety of hand and foot prints in cement that commemorate some of the cast and crew members of films screened at the theatre.
