Live at Studio5: RANDY NAPOLEON
Randy Napoleon, guitar Kazuki Takemura, bass
Celebrating the Midwest Big Three: Grant Green, Kenny Burrell & Wes Montgomery!
We're returning to the roots of our series for this one! Back when we started presenting performances at the Whiskey Lounge our focus -- partly because it was a small space -- was jazz duets and trios. I have always been fond of the intimate musical conversations that happen when just two jazz musicians take the stage. Earlier this year our dear friend, guitarist Andy Brown, told me about a great fellow-guitarist in Michigan, Randy Napoleon. We are thrilled to welcome Randy to Chicago for his debut performance at Studio5. Like Andy, Randy is a serious young guitarist of that next generation of players in the lineage of Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell. Randy has a genuine pedigree of his own: He is a member of the Freddy Cole Quartet, he toured with Benny Green, John & Jeff Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, and Michael Buble. He has performed at Lincoln Center, The Hollywood Bowl, The Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall. Wow. Join us for what is certain to be an incredible evening -- just Randy Napoleon in cozy musical conversation with the talented bassist, Kazuki Takemura. They will be paying homage to three of Randy's big influences, all Midwesterners: Guitarists Grant Green, Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery.
We'll be recording this performance for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB, so you'll be part of the studio audience! See you there! -SR
