All About Elvis: Rex and The Rockabilly Kings
ALL ABOUT ELVIS a screening of the original short Documentary Film 200 CADILLACS & Live Concert featuring REX and the ROCKABILLY KINGS
Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step fame has a unique and exciting show that pays homage to the legacy of Elvis Aaron Presley. The show includes a screening of his critically acclaimed 45-minute documentary film 200 CADILLACS followed by a live concert featuring his band Rex & The Rockabilly Kings performing early Elvis classics accompanied by a multimedia slide show.
Drawing from his country roots and the African/American traditions of Gospel and Rhythm & Blues that were nurtured in the fertile soil of the Mississippi Delta, Elvis intuitively created a revolutionary groundbreaking sound that had never been imagined before, inspiring artists such as John Lennon and Keith Richards to form their own bands and changing popular music forever. Elvis musical contribution, cultural impact, and artistic achievement made him an unsurpassed 20th century icon.
ABOUT THE FILM: Elvis was also an incredibly generous man and his gift of choice was a shiny new Cadillac car. This was the inspiration for Rexs critically acclaimed 2004 documentary film, 200 CADILLACS. Elvis generosity to friends, family and complete strangers is detailed through candid and personal accounts, vintage video clips and rare photographs. The film is both funny and a touching as it shines a light on this beautiful but seldom seen or discussed side of the King of Rock & Roll.
A highlight of 200 CADILLACS is its amazing soundtrack. The film features original songs written especially for the documentary by Fowler, as well as songs penned by John Hiatt, Sid Straw and Jon Pousette-Dart. Among the songs covered by other artists is a brilliant and bluesy rendition of Hound Dog by Levon Helm and Mavis Staples.
I like Elvis well enough, but Im not a devotee, and I never thought Id find this film as compelling as I did. Leonard Maltin, Movie Critic
ABOUT THE CONCERT: Rex and The Rockabilly Kings perform authentic renditions of Elvis Sun and early RCA Records classics from 1954 into the early 60s. Rex leads the group on Elvis-style acoustic guitar, compelling lead vocals and historically accurate and often amusing song introductions, and is backed by a dazzling 3-piece band featuring brothers Billy and Steven Muddy Roues on Scotty Moore-style electric guitar and Bill Black-style slap bass respectively. Muddy also plays a riveting blues harp solo on Mystery Train and both brothers sing their share of inspiring lead vocals. Joe Geary rounds out the band on good vibes and D. J. Fontana-style drums and percussion. The Roues brothers also contribute stirring Jordanaires-style harmonies that were an essential part of Elvis early sound.
Elvis defined Rock & Roll: The sneer, the hair, the twisting knees, the thrusting hips, the Pink Cadillac. Dick Clark, American Bandstand
ABOUT REX FOWLER: Since 1971, as one half of the celebrated folk-rock duo Aztec Two-Step, Rex Fowler has performed worldwide and toured with scores of notable artists including Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne and The Band. As a most enduring and prolific artist, Rex continues to thrill and engage audiences, whether with Aztec Two-Step, or with one of his other brilliant endeavors.
