Kerrigan Presents: Improv on Ice!
In January 1994, Nancy Kerrigan was attacked with a police baton by an assailant hired by the ex-husband of her rival Tonya Harding. She recovered in time to compete at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where she won a silver medal. Despite this miracle of human endurance, American culture has generally focused on Harding as the protagonist of the story. The mere existence of 2017 Harding biopic I, Tonya reflects the corrosive nature of a society that preoccupies itself with justifying violence rather than praising hard work, talent, and fortitude. The lengths to which we have collectively gone to depict Harding as the hero of the narrative represent a severe moral indictment of who we are, who we have been, and who we may well become.
Anyway, we're having an improv show. It's not actually on ice. As always, Tonya Harding is not invited.
