Natalia Almada Mexico & US 2016 1h 38m About ** Seattle premiere! **
Documentarian Natalia Almadas narrative debut is a tender and observant portrayal of Doña Flor (Academy Award nominated Adriana Barraza), a woman who has worked a government job in Mexico City for 35 years. Each day, Doña Flor sits at her desk job reviewing voter ID applications, she takes the same route to and from the office, and repeats the same routine every morning. One day, her life unravels and she seeks comfort at her local pool, hoping the water will provide some comfort, she is paralyzed by fear and cannot enter. Doña Flor begins to realize how desperately she needs to connect to other people in order to move forward. Told with compassion and humor, Everything Else is a quiet drama that celebrates and intimately portrays everyday life in the most unexpected ways.
The simplicity of the filmmaking and the subtlety of observation in Almadas first fictional narrative allow this double portrait of a person (a middle-aged female government clerk) and a place (Mexico City) to emerge in all its personal, social, and emotional complexity. Amy Taubin, Artforum
Adriana Barraza gives a masterful performance. Eric Kohn, IndieWire
