Dance artist Leyya Mona Tawil asks: Can a dance be destroyed? Destroy// is built in 1-day. In performance, the dance destroys itself
Destroy// is built on location in 1 day. It is a work that is composed, but untethered. The collaborators all participate in a work imbedded with mechanisms that make its execution increasingly impossible. Performers are forced to navigate the fields of invincibility and deterioration. In performance, the dance destroys itself.
This event at CPR features musician Ches Smith (percussion and electronics), and a cast of 11 dancers. It is part of DANCE ELIXIR's research tour called Destroy// all places. that has also traveled to venues in New Orleans, Amsterdam and Rome.
Destroy// developed in late 2012 during DANCE ELIXIR's residency at KUNST-STOFF arts in San Francisco, with primary collaborators Mike Guarino (drums), Dominic Cramp (synths) and Ava Mendoza (guitar). There have since been 15 research events involving over 50 dancers and many musicians. For more information CLICK HERE.
