Dancing at Lughnasa
A haunting memory play of a long-ago summer, Dancing at Lughnasa transports us to a small cottage in County Donegal, in 1936 Ireland. The last scenes of the Mundy clan, shot through with love and loss, emerge out of the mists of lost time just before the family breaks apart forever. The play is filled with dance and music; the dreamy songs of the 30's, the driving beat of Irish reels. In this movement and rhythm memory lives, and we are gently swept way by its haunting, golden spell.
Rivals of the West is a student-run performing arts team whose goal is to bring a theater tradition to the Maryland Institute College of Art. In addition to being visually skilled, many MICA students are also talented actors, directors, set designers, and lighting designers. We take advantage of all these skills in order to put on innovative and truly creative performances. MICA's new Gateway Building features BBOX Theater, a flexible black box performance space. With our shows we aim to bring this space to its full potential.
