Hamilton de Holanda solo mandolin
The Kensington Concert Series, in conjunction with the San Diego Diplomacy Council, is very excited to host Brazilian virtuoso Hamilton de Holanda.
Hamilton started to play at the age of 5 (1981) and today is one of the most acclaimed Brazilian musicians, with a career full of prizes. In 2016 he received both the Latin Grammy for best instrumental album and the Echo Jazz Award in Germany. Hamilton renewed the history of the instrument by adding two extra strings to the mandolin (10 strings) and creating a unique technique for it. Hamilton performs all over the world with different ensembles and collaborations. From solo to orchestras, from samba to jazz, from clubs to big crowds, and collaborations and recording with names like Wynton Marsalis, Chucho Valdés, Stefano Bollani, Richard Galliano, John Paul Jones( Led Zeppelin), Chic Corea just to name a few. He has over 135 thousand fans on the facebook.
He is the personification of everything we want in a musician, not just a great musician. He plays well, has good reflexes, knows how to listen, has a natural way of playing. He has depth of soul and feeling. He is a national treasure! - Wynton Marsalis
Reception to follow with drinks and homemade goodies. ALL SEATING IS OUTDOORS, please dress accordingly.
