A Wiley Trio & Night Folk
On June 4th, ALEXA WILEY & THE WILDERNESS released a new recording entitled PLANTED. The Alexa Wiley Trio invited their friends Night Folk (Boyz Makin Noise) to join them at Portlands best listening room for an evening of great new music like Get It Right from the new CD as well as some old favorites by both bands,
A WILEY TRIO Portlands folk/rock band Alexa Wiley & The Wilderness are laying down deep roots on their new album, Planted. The collection of original songs on Planted borrows from an array of genres and musical expressions. Continuing down the same path as their debut collaboration from 2015, the songs display varying styles tied together with themes of the search for meaning in our hurried, modern world. Like a cross between Joni Mitchell and a female Tom Petty, Wileys voice nourishes the bands unique blend of meaningful lyrics. In the stripped down version of the band, A Wiley Trio, she is backed by some the longest standing members: Bret Malmquist on lead guitar and Dale Turnbull on bass. 2018 is the 10-year anniversary of Alexas debut album, Eating That Way, recorded by Jim Brunberg above the old Mississippi Studios. That album, with its rich acoustic feel, gave shape to Alexas unique insights through a more traditionally understood folk format. Fast-forward to Alexas collaboration with the Wilderness and you find yourself possessed by the musical moment, where consciousness collides into wild forays of existential folk-rock. www.alexawiley.com
NIGHT FOLK Night Folk rose from the embers and ashes of The Grodie Brothers, the northwests legendary John Prine cover band, back in 2010. With the additions of Jerry Towell (who has since moved on due to wedded bliss) on guitar/vocals and Piers Munro on harmonica and vocals, we were off and playin. At our core are the songs of Rich Waggs Waggoner. Rich is passionate about songwriting and has been for decades. His songs have been described as Blue collar truths -- a songwriter for the working class. His tunes cover the humorous as well as difficult human experiences, sometimes in the same song. Richs songs resonate with audiences of diverse backgrounds. Doug Spud Henderson, the other original member, brings a passion for well-crafted songs, singing, and the connection that music brings to people. A self-proclaimed Prinehead, his enthusiasm while performing strikes a chord with folks. Piers Munro, our non-northwest native (originally from southern California,) is a real pro as a performer/musician and a businessman in the music/sales industry. Piers musicianship and vocal skills add so much to the mix. Collectively, Night Folk embraces its motto, The Music Is Magic! www.reverbnation.com/nightfolk
