FAMILY MATTERS by Rachel Atkins
Set in the backyard of the Horowitz-Yamasaki-Bloom family home, three generations of this Jewish-American-transracial family gather for their traditional Mothers Day celebration of bagels and lox and Korean potato salad. Nana, the matriarch, is struggling with Alzheimers. Her adult daughters, Pearl and Lena, both adopted from Korea and with grown children of their own, find themselves at odds about their mother's care. Granddaughter Gracie unexpectedly invites her new boyfriend Antoine. Everyone arrives with secrets, and their revelations bring out their complicated hidden truths, while examining the myriad of expectations, responsibilities and roles that women face in every modern family. An insightful, humorous and affecting new look at the ties and traditions that bind.
Directed by ReAct's Artistic Director, David Hsieh, our multi-ethnic ensemble features the talents of Tamron Harrison, Serin Ngai, Walayn Sharples, Mika Swanson, and Katie Tupper. With Lighting designed by Robert Falk, Sound designed by Rob Witmer, and Stage Management by Marilyn Gonzalez.
We're excited to present this exciting World Premiere production by the playwright of the award-winning BLACK LIKE US for a limited engagement this summer. Don't miss this charming and provocative new play!
