Basic Urban Beekeeping Certification Workshop with Jim Miller Fridays, March 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This 12-hour class will cover basic urban beekeeping topics: European Honey Bee History, Flower Pollination, Beekeeping Equipment, How to get started, Honey Bee Work Stations, Honey Bee Pests & Diseases, Honey Bee Treatment & Feeding, Swarming, Preparing for the Honey Flow, Spring Management, Summer Management, Fall Management. The (encouraged but not required) textbook, "The Handbook for the Bee Loving Beekeeper" can be purchased from rosedogbooks.com or at the start of class for $19. This book is helpful in following the lectures and for later reference. Jim will conduct an exam at the end of the course that meets the City of Spokane Ordinance for beekeeping ($10.00/person for the exam). Jim Miller has been a beekeeper for about 20 years. He has been on three Farmer to Farmer trips, two to the Republic of George and the third to Egypt. Where Jim worked with the local beekeepers in solving their problems. Jim has been teaching classes for the last 15 years. The Millers Homestead LLC is Certified as Naturally Grown Apiaries. No chemicals in the hive or on the land they are setting on. Jim is also a Certified Master Beekeeper. The only one in Eastern Washington. Come join Jim and learn the basics of Urban Beekeeping.
